A Short History of Kelly's

On the coast of Southern California, in Ports of Call Village, people gather from all over to relax and enjoy the clear skies, fresh air, and the picturesque atmosphere of the sea. It is here that Kelly's began at the water's edge as a quaint New England style shop.

The fresh aroma of home-style fudge soon began to lead crowds of hungry customers to Kelly's. As onlookers watched, kettles of freshly cooked fudge poured into pans and folded into loaves for sale to the anxiously awaiting customers. This was the forerunner of a new and expanded concept, and "Kelly's Coffee & Fudge Factory" was born.

This concept not only blended the rich aroma of freshly roasted and brewed gourmet coffee with the sweet smell of home-made fudge, it added the spicy aroma of fresh baked pastry to tease the senses. Thus, the perfect compliment to the fudge and candy operation was created.

New owners since May 2001, Mary Gerlick and Kenneth Goodman came to the same conclusion, that Kelly's success as a family-oriented gourmet coffee outlet would be best achieved by observing the following premises:

• Maintain a service that appeals to the whole family.
• Operation by families who best understand family needs.
• Offer a range of products to maintain steady sales throughout the day.

Since coffee is dominantly a morning drink we created a menu that stimulates customer interest, no matter the time of day. We also provided alternative menus for the hot months of the year when traditional coffee consumption was typically lower.

Kelly's Coffee & Fudge Factory blends the rapidly expanding market of specialty coffee retailing with an extensive menu of freshly baked pastries, sandwiches, salads, and home-style fudge, which appeals to the entire family. Specialty coffees and specialty frozen drinks such as our Mocha Freeze makes the concept a year round draw. Homemade fudge with flavors like Chocolate Caramel, Rocky Road, Oreo Fudge, as well as Rice Krispie treats are a delight for children and a welcome temptation for those with a sweet tooth.

Most stores offer the full-service Kelly's Coffee & Fudge Factory concept, offering baking, fudge, and beverages made directly on the premises. Our coffee selections are of the highest grade (species Arabica AA&A), with the customer's order filled directly from the roaster to produce the freshest coffee available. There is also an extensive sandwich and salad menu. Related accessories, such as cups and gift items, are also available.

At the time of this writing, Kelly's operates 40 locations in California, Arizona, Colorado and Saudi Arabia with 15 more sites in the works for 2008.
